  • Welcome to my blog!

My blog is finally getting a makeover and I am loving the minimalist look. Please look around and let me know what you think! Make sure you check out my facebook page too.

Hello!

We are so proud doing our own landscaping this year, putting all four grown kids to work! Last year I loved hiring landscapers and seeing it all finish in a day or two. This year, we decided to save a little money and do a little more research on shrugs and flowers.

My top two recommendations for flowers, shrubs & trees:

MJ Farms – Heading west on Continental, you cross over Davis and it will soon be on your right side of road. PROS: Greenhouses, so everything is lush and beautiful. We love our Sedum Autumn Joy and Autumn Fire Azalea bushes, along with Hibiscus and Pentas flowers. Plus lots of flower selection for my pots. They also sell bagged soil that is incredible! CONS: They don’t have pricing posted on everything and not a lot of sales people around to help, but be patient…it is worth it!  It took a second visit to fall in love with this place.

Blooming Colors Nursery – If I could buy it all here, I would! They have an incredible loyalty program. PROS: You receive a 10% credit toward future purchases on everything you buy.  They have  wonderful sales. We bought Holly trees for our backyard and they were 30% off. They have flowers too, but nothing like MJ Farms or Calloways. CONS: They are short on staff for planting trees, so it is taking longer than normal to get your trees delivered & planted. UPDATE: Trees are planted, yay!  They did an awesome job, Virginia (manager) showed up too…very impressed!

One last shout out to Alpine in Southlake off of Brumlow (near 26), this place is rocking with customer service, great product, competitive pricing! We were lucky to get our mulch the same day as we ordered. We also liked that there selection over other places we checked out. Highly recommend! Plus the manager called the next day to make sure it all went smooth with delivery! Amazing.

If you have a recommendation to share of any local businesses, let me know so I can feature them here!

My fall session dates will be opening soon, look for more information in the next few days!

Always a pleasure,

Jane

~Texas gets a big “W” this weekend, unbelievable football! Many of my Georgia peeps are very happy too, lots of wins! Football season is certainly a start of weekend mania but this hot weather does a funny thing to us…even with football season here, we tend to forget that it is the start of the fall season!  Not until it cools down, will it start feeling like fall. It is hard to believe that soon we will buying pumpkins, then Halloween costumes, and then Thanksgiving! I am not ready…are you?
~My home office is finally decorated (yay!) but I am also very upset with myself!  As I was gathering pictures for my bookshelves, my heart sank as I was reminded that I lacked pictures of our family. I have LOTS of pictures of my four children and my children with both sets of grandparents but very few of the the six of us. And I am a photographer…talk about guilt, right? I mean…dang, I should know better! We have some, but sadly one of my favorite family picture of all six of us, is a low quality, grainy iphone picture.
~We all can make excuses why it isn’t a good time to have a family picture taken, I have heard them many times…and here are mine. 1.) I have braces (ugh!)  2.) I would love to be 10 pounds lighter! 3.) Too busy. The reality is that we can’t wait for the perfect time because there will never be a perfect time! I can’t go back in time, but I can certainly make a concerted effort from this day on.
~Call at 678-907-1934 or email: jane@janedowdphotography.com for more information on scheduling a regular fall or spring session. Anyone wanting the FABfive, there are only 7 of these left.  Click here and link will redirect you to fill out an information sheet, then it takes you to payment. By doing this, you will be guaranteed a spot with this special for a fall session. Not sure on a date yet? No worries…everyone is busy, so what I like to do is to pencil in a date that may work but we can tweak once we get closer.  Look forward to seeing you soon!

Raindrops hit my windshield as I drove up Bob Jones Rd, but not a drop once I opened up my car door to greet my client who had just parked their car next to me. I quickly walked into the office to pay my photography fee, hoping it would be a fast transaction so I could start my session. Little did I know that when I was approaching the office door there was a copperhead snake lurking nearby. A volunteer noticed it crawling in front of the door once I entered, and of course I acted like a scared child as soon as I saw it, even though I was inside. I had to find another exist so I wouldn’t be near the snake. I warned my client, we were watchful but soon it was all forgotten as we were having lots of laughs and a great session. Toward the end while talking with Zach’s mom, I placed a rustic stool by the barn. As soon as I placed in on the ground, I screamed and ran away. I literally put the stool on top of a small copperhead (didn’t touch it though) that was all curled up!! What are the chances to set the stool down directly on a snake in this large reserve of 760 acres, you have got to be kidding me! The stool legs didn’t touch the snake but when Zach took stool away it lightly grazed the snake yet it still did not move. Not sure if he was dead or just playing dead but it was certainly a day of seeing too many snakes!

Enough with my story of snakes, this was a wonderful session! Zach is a great, great kid…enjoyed photographing him. I also photographed Zach’s older brother a few years ago and feel blessed they chose me as their photographer again, it means a lot to me! It was fun catching up with his mom, and can’t wait for
them to see the gallery!
